|4 Steps 2 License| |License= 2 tests| |easier| |What About Licensing| |Risky?| |Some Data|
First, the WRITTEN test: You must pass the written test at the DMV. It is a multiple choice test. After passing the written test you will receive a restricted license, M, making it legal for you to drive any motorcycle. The DMV may require you to retake a portion of the car written test.
Second, the ON-BIKE test: You must pass the on-bike test for your unrestricted license.
If you are under 21, you are not allowed to take the on-bike test at the DMV.
If you are over 21, you are allowed to take the on-bike test at the DMV. At the DMV, you may use your bike or someone elses bike, whatever you arrange.
If you are over 21, you are allowed to attend and take the on-bike test in the 15 hour course, however, you must attend all 15 hours before testing on the small bikes they provide.
If you pass the on-bike test at the DMV, you will leave with your unrestricted, M1, motorcycle license.
-OR-
If you pass the on-bike test at the 15 hour course, that school will give you a DL389 certificate (Motorcycle Driver's Ed certificate) as
proof you passed the on-bike test. You must then go to the DMV and file with them the DL389 certificate as proof you
passed the on-bike test. Then the DMV will give you the M1 unrestricted motorcycle license.
